Sustainability
Our team develops research in the broad field of Sustainability in two main areas: sustainable material systems and sustainable multimodal transports.
Sustainable Material Systems addresses performance-based multi-criteria material selection for sustainable architecture. We develop research related to the multivariate and multidimensional complex process of selecting building materials and construction assemblies for architecture. Considering functional performance and environmental impact parameters, we seek to understand the balance between conflicting specification criteria. An approach directly related to architectural design scenarios is adopted, especially in what concerns the functional programme / climate relationship, building occupation, comfort as well as environmental requirements, additionally integrating the architectural cultural value. Multi-criteria decision support methods allow to increase the variability of analysis.
Sustainable Multimodal transports area aims to provide citizens, cities and their urban multimodal transport operators, with a computational system and evaluation tools. For that our team adopts hybrid modelling and analysis creating an indicator based on computational models, sociological studies and economy techniques.
