PIAAC (The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies)

This is an international project promoted by the OECD, financed by the Portuguese State and managed by CIES (Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia), ISCTE-IUL. It aimed to assure, within its multiple dimensions, the Portuguese participation in the PIAAC (The Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies). PIAAC is an international comparative study aiming to evaluate competences in the adult population (ages from 16 to 65 years), in which more than 30 countries participated. After the IALS (International Adult Literacy Survey), this is the first worldwide study in this domain. The adult competences are evaluated using a direct method based on computer or paper proofs. The evaluated domains are: literacy, numeracy, and problem solving in technological environments.
