details

The aim of this study is to understand how the different components of the city interrelate, with a focus on the analysis of the impact of spatiotemporal and social dynamics on the perceived reality.

Contrarily to the amount of research on the capacity of urban morphology to condition social activities, the influence of social activities on the perception of urban space is still lacking a comprehensive research.

This research can contribute to a more effective and integrated urban planning, management and policies, giving urban stakeholders information about the physical impacts of immaterial outputs of society.

The research hypothesis is here presented as a consequence of the critical discussion of literature review and argues that, alongside with the physical reality (spatial analysis), a temporal analysis of ephemeral urban events (urban rhythms) will reveal a correlation with agents behavior, which leads to a constant review of perceived space-time reality, throughout dynamic cognitive processes.
